odium Cafe, home to an exclusive collection of high end cars, underwent a vast transformation to enhance the functionality of the space whilst adding a touch of luxury. The location, complete with a café, is designed to offer an eclectic combination of speciality coffee and beautiful cars to Newbury and the surrounding area.
Housing about a dozen luxury cars, the unique space also includes a roasting facility, used for the wholesale production of coffee. IQ designed and installed a glazing package, working closely with Waterman Building & Preservation Ltd to include slim framed sliding door systems, to show off the cars from the front of the building. The aluminium framed doors have ultra slim sightlines from just 20mm and are complete with a flush threshold that can be driven over with ease, to show off the cars outside during warmer weather.
Internal glazing was specified to separate the dining area in the café without obstructing any light or views. IQ utilised Invisio, our frameless structural glazing system, to provide the most minimal glass solution throughout the internal spaces.
Large elevations of glass create frameless picture windows on the external face of the warehouse style building, adding a modern touch to the industrial style exterior design. Natural light flows uninterrupted through the building, creating a brightly lit café area as well as a well-lit space to view the cars up close.
Minimally framed and frameless systems are a great choice for industrial style warehouse buildings like this. Oversized glazing injects a modern twist into the exterior design, resulting in a modern industrial aesthetic. The use of minimally framed systems here in conjunction with frameless elevations of glass allows the glass to be the primary feature, eliminating the need for any chunkier frames that could detract from the purpose of the building.
The result of the renovation project is a truly unique space, flooded with natural light and highly ventilated for visitors to relax and enjoy the car collection. Internal glazing allows the cars to be seen from anywhere in the café, as well as the slim sliding door systems allowing the cars to be seen from outside.
