High performance glazing solutions for college in Central London.
Bayswater College, based in central London, offers courses in English language and social enterprise based on their 1-4-1 ethos: ‘for every student educated on one of their courses in London, another is educated in that student’s home country’. Bayswater College offers three main course areas, which include, Digital marketing, Fashion, and the English language.
The main objective of the refurbishment was to rebrand, creating a fun and promising environment for students to come in and work efficiently. Architects Tigg + Coll were appointed to design the refurbishment for Bayswater College, the brief included a rebrand of bright and muted colours as well as updating the four main communal areas.
The staircase was predominantly designed to become the focal point to connect each floor, the existing terrazzo staircase was reworked to include the ideals that the college followed. Bayswater Colleges brand is characterised by bright colours and bold lettering, this idea was carried throughout the building to create individual floor identification; The transition between colours takes place in the staircase, along with signage and graphics used to identify the floors.
IQ designed and installed 48 Schuco aluminium framed windows to the exterior of the London College, flooding the internal space with natural light, which is known to improve students’ productivity and general wellness. The upgrade of the existing windows is a key contemporary design element that Tigg + Coll architects felt was necessary for the renovation of this 1950’s building.
Slim framed aluminium windows were specified due to the outstanding performance values, the thermally broken system is able to achieve impressive thermal performances. Our aluminium windows are designed to offer flexible solutions that enhance the exterior design as well as the interior design. Using glass as a building material is an exceptional way of preserving the building’s aesthetic simultaneously with introducing modern elements.
