Edgbaston stadium has recently been completely renovated to elevate the stadium into a state of the art cricket ground. Located in Birmingham, the city council approved the plans as it was seen as a great investment for the community and the sport of cricket.

Edgbaston is one of the most recognisable cricket grounds in the country, therefore the quality and outcome of the project was of great importance. IQ Projects specified bespoke stadium glazing systems for Edgbaston including our three track minimal windows slim sliding door system along with a frameless balustrade system.

The Glazing

Edgbaston stadium windows have had a complete IQ overhaul.

The three-track minimal windows system has been specified as 7000mm wide by 3130mm high and consists of 4nr sliding panes and 2nr fixed panes. The sliding system has been installed to function as a large viewing window from the main box down into the cricket pitch. The sliding doors when opened are not used as access doors, instead they act as windows to improve ventilation and improve the atmosphere when a cricket game is being played.

Due to the sliding system being used as a window instead of an access door, a frameless internal glass balustrade system was installed to increase safety standards as the system is installed from an elevated viewing box. The balustrade system was made bespoke to 4666mm wide by 1200mm high and is structurally safe enough to support human weights.

Additional Costs and Features

A few additional stadium glazing elements were added to the project including heat soak testing for mechanical strength. This was to decrease the possibility of spontaneous glass breakage. IQEdgbaston stadium windows Projects also used powder coated aluminium cover pressings for the systems to increase system longevity and aesthetics.

The works at Edgbaston stadium are still ongoing as of August 2023 as we are now installing a bespoke glass roof to cover and complete the next extension space.
