Grainhouse Shortlisted for AJ Architecture Awards 2024 Mixed-Use Project
Architects’ Journal (AJ) continues to recognise outstanding architectural achievements through its esteemed AJ Architecture Awards. This year, the Mixed-use project (up to £75 million) category celebrates developments that seamlessly blend residential, commercial, and communal spaces while showcasing innovation and sustainability.
We are thrilled to announce that Grainhouse, a project to which IQ Projects contributed significantly, has been shortlisted for the AJ Architecture Awards 2024 in the Mixed-use project category.
Originally a Victorian seed house, Grainhouse is a stunning building located in London’s Covent Garden. Saved from demolition by Barr Gazetas Architects, the project involved transforming this historic structure into a vibrant mixed-use development, preserving its architectural heritage while introducing modern amenities.
IQ Projects was commissioned to design and supply a substantial bespoke glazing package to maximise natural light and enhance the building’s aesthetic appeal. Spanning over 90,000 square feet, the project required meticulous planning and innovative solutions. Our team paid careful attention to the sills and frames, ensuring they interlaced seamlessly with the surrounding structures and finishes. Frequent scanning surveys were conducted to perfect each bespoke glazing detail.
Overcoming numerous logistical challenges, our technical team devised innovative structural Invisio glass solutions. The successful completion of Grainhouse not only preserved a piece of London’s architectural history but also set new standards in mixed-use development design.
Being shortlisted for the AJ Architecture Awards 2024 is a testament to the collaborative effort and ingenuity of everyone involved. We are proud to have played a pivotal role in bringing this remarkable building back to life and contributing to its recognition on such a prestigious platform.
