Clifftops Cove Holiday Park lodges used IQ floor to ceiling sliding doors for panoramic views of the outdoors.
IQ’s structural glass products were used for these breathtaking clifftop holiday homes located on the east coast of the Isle of Portland.
Clifftops Cove Holiday Park is built on an important SSSI cliff that is also UNESCO protected, as the land contains fossils and rocks from the Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous periods. The copper clad lodges will sustainably age, retreating into the natural landscape over time.
Native coastal grasses cover the roofs and the lodges are separated by Portland stone rugged walls. This clever design merges the properties into the cliffs hiding them from passing boats and the Pennsylvania Castle above.
Built upon a former caravan site, these five luxury holiday lodges are flooded with natural light thanks to the floor to ceiling sliding doors.
To reduce reflections that may affect boats, the glass facades of each home are rotated three degrees from the next.
The advanced combination of insulated aluminium and high specification structural glass allows us to maximise glass surfaces, resulting in a design of transparency and immateriality. The use of frameless structural glass creates a threshold-free transition between inside and out.
Both the floor and wall finished flow seamlessly between the indoors and outdoors, aided by the frameless door track. When the door is open it creates one united space that lets the holidaymakers be at one with nature.
Slim 20mm sightlines on the sliding doors give a clear unobstructed view of the open sea, even when the doors are closed. With staycation popularity on the rise due to Covid-19, this relaxing getaway is ideal for holidaymakers.
