IQ use structural glass to form curved glass, utilising the adaptable nature of structural glazing to create these completely bespoke installations. The exterior of the new building was carefully designed to match the original brick structure of the heritage Church building.
To avoid detracting from the original charm, IQ Projects designed the curved glass to fix directly onto the weathered stone wall. Our attention to detail allows us to work on sensitive heritage buildings like this one, respecting the original structure whilst introducing modern elements. Cast in pale stone colour, the brickwork contrasts the glazed elements whilst showcasing the original brick as the main feature.
To avoid unnecessary obstructions on the glazing, the panes of glass used within the curved corner are joined with neat structural silicone joints. This creates the maximum amount of light to pass through and avoids interrupting the views from inside.
The beauty of using glass as the building material for this corner is that the original brickwork can be seen through the curved glass, granting a nod to the heritage of the Church building. Bifolding doors and casement window systems allow more natural light into the new extension building, creating an inviting atmosphere throughout.
Now that the church has been extended, there is significantly more space for visitors. It was important for the Church to remain a brightly lit, welcoming space and every glazed element installed by IQ is reflective of this ethos.
