Stunning Reception Glass Facade and Glass Box Canopy at Holborn Gate
ransforming this office in the heart of London, IQ Projects undertook a comprehensive engineering project that redefined both the external and internal glass features of the building. Internal refurbishment of this mighty building was completed by our new reception glass façade. This modern feature was crafted using frameless colored glass panels that elegantly shield the stairs above the reception desk. The impressive scale of the reception glass façade, which stretches from floor to ceiling, necessitated a robust structural support system.
To meet this challenge, we employed minimalistic structural beams that provided essential support while maintaining a sleek and unobtrusive appearance. Our frameless coloured glass protects the stairs above the welcome desk. The weight of such a large reception glass façade, spanning floor to ceiling, needs serious support; we achieved this with minimalistic structural beams that intensify the pleasing geometry. Stylish and safe, transparency of the glass was preserved so the steps are visible from any angle.
Turning our attention to the building’s exterior, we applied the same level of innovation and bold design. The building exterior is similarly illuminated by bold and unapologetic glass details. Its lime green theme is a feast for the eyes, making Holborn Gate impossible to miss among its retail neighbours. Jutting out past the building envelope to welcome guests, this self-supported glass box canopy was the first main glazing structure we installed, shaped by bonding together slim steel brackets.
This choice of color, combined with the unique glass features, helps the building make a memorable impression on passersby. One of the most notable external features is the self-supported glass box canopy, which extends beyond the building’s envelope to create a welcoming and distinctive entrance. This canopy was the first major glazing structure we installed for the project, and its design involved bonding slim steel brackets together. The result is a visually intriguing and structurally sound feature that exemplifies our dedication to innovative design.
One of IQ Projects oldest projects, it’s since been renovated into a new bank building. Nonetheless, these quirky glazing enhancements made Holborn Gate quite the trendy design in its day. This project is notable not only for its distinctive design but also for its role in showcasing IQ Projects’ pioneering spirit.
Although it represents one of our earlier endeavors, Holborn Gate remains a significant example of how creative glazing solutions can redefine a building’s identity. Over the years, the building has undergone renovations and has been repurposed into a new bank building, yet the unique glazing features continue to reflect its original innovative design. The project set a new benchmark for glass façade design and highlighted the potential for glass to transform architectural aesthetics.
IQ Projects has dictated the pace of the industry’s evolution since then; our glazing systems are more advanced and customisable than ever. Since the completion of the Holborn Gate project, IQ Projects has continued to lead the industry in glazing technology and design. Our glazing systems have evolved to incorporate the latest advancements, offering increased customization and improved performance. We take pride in our ability to stay ahead of industry trends, continually refining our methods and materials to meet the diverse needs of our clients.
As we move forward, we remain committed to pushing the boundaries of what is possible with glass engineering.
