The Lodge

A

private lodge designed to accommodate elite sporting figures during their sports coaching or games at the local sport clubs and training centres. This high specification player accommodation comprises 45 bedrooms, health and wellbeing treatment rooms, entertainment spaces and outdoor living areas. The curvilinear building was designed by F3 Architects who had a strong focus on the surrounding natural environment, therefore they ensured that the crescent lodge had a Scandi feel sympathetic to its location.

To connect the new build lodge to its rural surroundings F3 Architects designed the inner façade of the crescent with a series of timber pillars spanning the full width of the two-storey accommodation. To further nestle the building into the landscape, the roof of the lodge was planted with an array of flora to create a living green roof. The wooden pillars are set a metre or so away from the façade of the glazed walls to provide an element of privacy to each room while also offering shade to the internal spaces.

The first-floor balcony runs the full width of the inner semi-circle and is enclosed by a frameless glass balustrade system. The wooden pillars sit on the external face of the balustrades highlighting the boundary of the first-floor arcade. This architectural arcade connects each of the top floor bedroom quarters for a flowing aesthetic. The timber pillars add an aspect of privacy; however, the outdoor glass balustrades offer uninterrupted views of the beautifully landscaped grounds in between each cluster of pillars.

To each bedroom in the crescent shaped lodge, a two-track sliding door and a Schueco tilt and turn window were installed beside each other to create a fully glazed frontage to each room. The fenestration resulted in a highly contemporary finish to the accommodation and provides access to the balcony and outdoor spaces. The Schueco windows were designed to be tilt only for security in the evenings while still allowing ventilation into the rooms.

The exterior sliding glass doors are a luxury touch to the façade of the lodge offering a seamless transition between the indoor and outdoor spaces. Each of the sliding doors are surrounded by timber cladding to continue the connection to the natural environment. The modern sliding doors offer outstanding views due to the slim aluminium muntin between each sliding glass pane.

IQ worked closely with the architects to design this luxurious accommodation facility ensuring that the design was both practical and modern. The Lodge now provides impressive accommodation to world renowned athletes who frequently return to The Lodge.
