Town Hall Hotel
he Town Hall Hotel is a much-celebrated renovation and extension of the old, Grade II listed Bethnal Green Town Hall.
Having been built in 1910, and then extended in 1937 the listed building was used as the areas municipal administration building and was subjected to multiple insensitive alterations before becoming vacant in 1997.
The award-winning restoration and modern extension design intended to maintain and restore the ornate building design whilst extending it sympathetically with the internal glazing playing a primary role in the interior design.
As part of the restoration project all ornate moulded ceilings, wooden panelling, dado rails and decorative skirting boards were expertly restored. The new internal structures were required to be simplistic and light to balance these intricate original design details; the glass was the perfect option.
Within the main De Montfort Suite IQ designed and installed a large, double storey frameless glass wall with a glass fin supporting structure. Frameless glass doors were built into the glass elevation design for a completely frameless finish. This wall of frameless glass creates a striking room design to the luxury suite and allows occupants to appreciate the historical surroundings throughout the entire room.
Each room shape and size within the new 98 room luxury hotel was dictated by the buildings nature and listed status and the architects had to get creative. Specialist room ‘pods’ were installed using raised platforms and frameless glass balustrades to create distinct areas within each hotel room without changing the building and room design or impeding views to the buildings stain glass windows.
Further into the extension of the Town Hall Hotel IQ provided more specialist fire rated glass walls and partitions to the new gym and restaurant.
