The Royal Opera House - Project with IQ glazing shortlisted for RIBA award

The 83 shortlisted projects for the RIBA London Awards were recently announced, one of these 83 projects was The Royal Opera House. IQ worked alongside Stanton Williams to provide the full glazing package for this vast renovation project.

This renovation was part of the wider 'Open Up' project that the Royal Opera House was steering, which included the work of over 30 contractors. The aim of 'Open Up' was to improve the theatre experience for the public, staff and performers at the Opera House, and also to create new spaces to be enjoyed before and after the performances.

Part of the incredible project was the Bar at Level 5 which benefited from a terrace that overlooked the streets of Covent Garden. To this terrace, IQ installed a series of single glazed sliding windows that provide guests with shelter from the elements when required. Structural glass Oriel Box windows were installed in the bar adjoining the terrace to increase the amount of light within the bar/dining area as well as connecting the diners to the terrace.

The winner of the RIBA London Award category will be announced later in the year.
