The Story of Gardening Museum wins RIBA South West Award 2021

The sustainable build takes home multiple awards for the highly glazed design.

The Story of Gardening Museum, part of The Newt in Somerset, has been recognised in the 2021 RIBA awards. Taking home the South West RIBA Award 2021 and the South West Sustainability RIBA Award, the award-winning project is characterised by the 5 metre tall glass façade

The highly glazed building is reached via the Treetop Walkway, which was designed and fabricated in Cape Town. The combination of the crafted walkway and the bespoke glass design enhances the environment greatly, creating a truly unique experience for visitors.

The use of oversized glazing and slim framed systems allows the façade design to blend in with the surrounding nature, never detracting from the intended purpose.

Structural glass walls stretch the length of the building façade, with only neat silicone joins visible between panes. The slim framed sliding glass door systems were specified with a silver finish, in order to blend in with the structural glazing and create a uniform design.

The glazing systems are fully thermally insulated to ensure the performance matches the innovative design.
